The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Data Workers

My kids attend an elementary school who follows the Leader in Me program run by Franklin-Covey. Part of the program is to emphasize the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People when praising individual performance and citizenship actions among the students in the school. With school kicking back off recently, I was inspired to start a series on what I consider to be the 7 habits as applied to data workers – whether it’s an ETL developer, reporting specialist, data architect, data scientist, etc. With that in mind, I’ll be writing articles on each of Stephen Covey’s 7 habits, applying his ideas to the challenges we see in our day to day efforts. Please note that the base material for the habits are the copyright of Franklin-Covey, and that I’m simply putting my take on how each applies to workers in our industry.

Be proactive

Begin with the end in mind

Put first things first.

Think win-win.

Seek first to understand, then be understood.

Synergize.

Sharpen the saw.
